Ruby, Yoz and Chris came to Japan for the a few weeks towards the end of the year. They arrived in Tokyo, where we spent a week, then a few days before Christmas we all went to Kumamoto. Ben joined us there, so we were all together for Christmas.
First things first - shopping in Shimokitazawa.
Then relaxing in the foot spa.
Long-missed food - buttered potatoes at Asasakusa.

Visiting the Ghibli Musuem before heading to Kyushu.
In Kumamoto, Obaachan enjoys the verandah sun.
On the 25th we all took a trip to the Mt Aso volcano.

On the way back we stopped off at Kurokawa, a spa town.
This was out Christmas lunch, cooking over coals.
We found a foot spa.
I’m smiling and also grimacing; the water is very hot.
At midnight on New Year’s eve we went to the local shrine
The next day we joined the crowd at the Temple in town.
On the 6th we took a trip with Ruby to the Amakusa islands.
This was a young Christian rebel, part of the local history.
